Conclusion

Project Conclusions and Evaluation

This project has helped me to understand more approaches to illustration. As a result, I've become quite interested in doing more representative designs and satirical pieces.

Even though the artists I've researched into and analysed are quite obscure in relation to one another, from the promotional video game artist Daigo Ikeno to the abstract, expressive painter Ashley Wood, I've identified visual languages in each that can be used outside of their typical context, and also alongside other languages.

I feel that this project will ultimately help me produce more commercially viable work. It's helped me understand the use and suggestions of colour, it's helped me to use texture as an interesting addition to a piece, and it's also shown me that a background is not always entirely necessary in the right context, it's shown me how you can alter the context of an illustration using a detail, such as a short line of dialogue, and it's taught me more about use and techniques of watercolour paints.

Alongside all these things that analysing their work has taught me, it's also given me a better understanding of deconstructing others' works.

To improve upon this research project I feel I'd simply do more analysis into more pieces, more artists, and perform more experiments, but this would potentially be endless.

Time to take what I've learnt and apply it to my other work.
